Homeowner Goals & Challenges

Frequent visits from family in Europe created the need for an additional guest bedroom. Rather than building an addition, these Austin homeowners chose to maximize their existing space by exploring the conversion of an underutilized loft.

Our Remodeling Approach

Working closely with the homeowners, we reimagined the loft to create a flexible and functional guest space. A custom Murphy bed was integrated to maximize square footage, allowing the room to serve multiple purposes while providing comfortable accommodations when needed.

To add warmth and cohesion, a built-in window seat and custom cabinetry, painted in Peppercorn by Sherwin-Williams, were introduced along an underutilized wall, creating both storage and a sense of completeness within the space.

The upstairs powder bathroom was also updated to reflect the homeowners’ style. A playful yet refined wallpaper was selected to bring personality to the space while maintaining an elevated feel suitable for guests of all ages. A Sausalito single-sink vanity, topped with natural Carrara marble in white with gray veining, anchors the room. Tongue-and-groove paneling lines all four walls to a height of 48 inches and is finished in Shaded White by Farrow & Ball.

The Final Outcome

The result is a thoughtfully reimagined loft that now functions as a flexible and welcoming guest retreat. Custom built-ins, a space-saving Murphy bed, and layered design details bring warmth and purpose to a once underutilized area. The upstairs powder room complements the space with a refined, personality-driven design, creating a cohesive and comfortable experience for visiting guests.
