Transitional Kitchen and Great Room Remodel in West Lake Hills, TX
Designer: Audrey Scheck | Location: West Lake Hills, TX

Homeowner Goals
These homeowners wanted to refresh their kitchen and great room, along with their primary bathroom, with a more modern look that better reflects their personal style. While the existing layout remained intact, the focus was on thoughtfully updating finishes, materials, and color selections to create spaces that feel more current, cohesive, and uniquely their own.

BEFORE

Our Remodeling Approach
We worked closely with the homeowners and the designer to preserve the original character of the home while thoughtfully introducing updates that reflect their personal style, particularly within the context of the home’s expansive vaulted ceilings.
In the kitchen, the existing perimeter cabinetry was retained and refreshed in Benjamin Moore’s Simply White and updated with black hardware, creating a clean, timeless foundation. A new custom island, finished in Midnight Spruce, anchors the space and introduces both contrast and function, complete with an induction cooktop, beverage fridge, ample storage, and comfortable seating for four.
Classic Calacatta quartz countertops and a 5x5 ceramic square tile backsplash keep the palette light and airy, while walls painted in Benjamin Moore’s White Dove provide a soft, cohesive backdrop that ties the space together.
Remodel Challenge
To accommodate the new island location, the existing downdraft ventilation system needed to be relocated. This required trenching below the floor to reroute the venting, allowing the updated layout to function seamlessly.

The Final Outcome
The result is a thoughtfully refreshed kitchen that feels both timeless and distinctly personal. By preserving the existing footprint and enhancing it with refined finishes, improved functionality, and a striking new island, the space now balances beauty and everyday performance. Light, cohesive materials keep the kitchen feeling open and airy, while deeper tones and custom details add warmth, contrast, and character, creating a space that feels effortlessly inviting and tailored to how the homeowners live.
